62TE Transmission Problems: Common Failures, Vehicle Applications, Diagnosis & Rebuilding

The Chrysler 62TE six-speed automatic transmission is used in selected Dodge, Chrysler, Ram and Volkswagen applications. This guide covers common failures, symptoms, vehicle applications, diagnosis, maintenance and rebuild considerations.

TRANSMAX NOTE: This guide is educational. Vehicle symptoms can have more than one cause, so diagnosis is required before deciding what repair is appropriate.

01

62TE vehicle applications

The 62TE has been used in selected Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Journey, Ram ProMaster, Volkswagen Routan and other Chrysler-platform vehicles.

02

Harsh shifting and delayed engagement

Hydraulic-control problems, valve-body wear, solenoid issues, fluid concerns and internal clutch wear can all affect shift quality.

03

Slipping, limp mode and gear loss

A slipping transmission, restricted gear operation or loss of certain gears should be diagnosed before parts are replaced.

04

Torque converter and hydraulic concerns

Shudder, delayed Reverse and pressure problems can involve torque-converter operation, valve-body wear or internal hydraulic leakage.

05

Repair, rebuild or replacement

The best repair depends on diagnostic findings, internal condition, vehicle mileage, parts availability and overall vehicle condition.
