TRANSMAX NOTE: This guide is educational. Vehicle symptoms can have more than one cause, so diagnosis is required before deciding what repair is appropriate.
Slipping or RPM flare
Engine speed rises but vehicle speed does not increase normally, or the transmission feels like it loses its hold between shifts.
Delayed engagement
There is a noticeable pause when selecting Drive or Reverse before the vehicle begins to move.
Shuddering or vibration
A vibration or repeated shudder during acceleration or a shift can come from the transmission, torque converter, mounts, axles or other systems.
Unusual noises
Whining, grinding, buzzing or clunking should be diagnosed rather than assumed to be normal transmission behavior.
Fluid leaks or warning lights
Transmission fluid on the ground, a transmission warning, or a check-engine light can provide clues that should be tested.
